Kenneth Buhr, 86, of Sumner, died Saturday evening, June 2, 2018, at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. George Volkert officiating.  Interment will be at Lutheran Cemetery of Sumner Township.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 6^th, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday.

Kenneth Henry Buhr, son of Henry and Louise (Bohle) Buhr was born March 12, 1932 in Dayton Township, Sumner, Iowa. He was baptized March 23, 1932, and confirmed March 25, 1945, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church Buck Creek, Iowa. He completed his education through the 8^th grade at the rural country school. On November 25, 1951, he was united in marriage with Helen Mettlin at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner. Kenny’s years of work included the family farm in Dayton Township, Chamberlain Manufacturing in Waterloo, Koering Cranes in Waverly, and most recently Meadowbrook Country Club in Sumner. Kenny was an active and longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner holding several positions. Kenny enjoyed trapping with his sons and grandchildren, deer hunting, fishing at the Mississippi and local ponds, and was extremely gifted with his hands in creating custom gunstocks and gunsmithing services. He loved history and talking about the various wars and presidents. He had a strong opinion on politics and didn’t mind expressing it to those interested. Kenny was a true gentleman and was a great resource for many when it came to repairs of automobiles or almost anything mechanical. His talents and knowledge will be greatly missed. He believed that faith, family, friends, and his country were his commitments in life.

Kenny is survived by eight children, Laurie (Jerry) Miller of Beaman, Jerry (Cathy) Buhr of Sumner, Leslie (Carol) Buhr of New Hampton, James Buhr of Waterloo, Janet (Kenny) Hackman of Ankeny, Scott (Connie) Buhr of Sumner, Gary Buhr of Cedar Rapids, and Dawn Buhr of New Hampton; 31 grandchildren; Michael (Jill) Stufflebeam, Wendy Bertram, Chris (Mark) Hauser, Jackie (Ted Kamatchus) Hauser, Shelly (Richard Clough) Sonderleiter, Ryan (Jennifer) Buhr, Jeremy (Sherri) Buhr, Luke (Jordan) Buhr, Rylee Gratz, Chantel Bentley, Rezner Buhr, Joshua (Crystal) Culbertson, Dan (Anna) Culbertson, Scott (Missy) Hackman, Paul (Theresa) Hackman, Kyle Hackman, Weston Buhr, Alyssa (Nick George) Buhr, Justin Rieks; 34 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen V., parents, siblings Helen, Bernita, and Leo Buhr; grandsons Dustin Buhr and Calum Ameling; son-in-law John Culbertson; his mother and father-in-law and two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law.
